Welcome to the sharemyNZ blog. We're constantly adding new posts to help you get the most out of the site and to update you on any new features. If you can't find an answer to your questions below then send us a message.
You worked a miracle in helping us make the finals at last year's TUANZ awards and we'd love your help again.

TUANZ Internet Awards - Have Your Say On sharemyNZ's Entry
1 POST PLUGGS
Hey sharemyNZers, we're entering into the 2007 TUANZ Internet Awards where we hope to scoop the newly created User Generated Content Award. We thought it would be pointless to enter without our entry being user generated, especially since all of sharemyNZ is created by you guys.
This is quite a cool little feature that we've recently added to your personal homepages. Do you have multiple email accounts like Hotmail, Yahoo, GMail? Or do you have three Hotmail accounts? Are you sick of having to go from website to website to keep track of your new messages? Well we've just made it a whole lot easier for you.
It's very simple to add a video to your blog entries. Firstly click on the insert video icon in your entry tool bar which will open up the embed video screen (pictured below)
Because each email provider has different login requirements you must enter your login details exactly the same in sharemyNZ as you would when logging into your email account separately. Some handy guides:
For the release of our first set of updates we thought we'd pay homage to the agricultural icon that is the Red Band Gumboot. As the backbone of the farming industry for over 60 years, we thought it was fitting to name this release after them given these updates will provide us with an equally strong foundation to grow from. Read on for a summary of the changes.
You now all have a snazzy new homepage that you can add as much stuff to as you like. It records your most recent activity like the images and videos you've uploaded or the blogs you've been writing and the businesses you've been plugging. It also means you can share photos and videos with your friends without having to start a blog. So login and make yours all nice and pretty today.
KiwiFM only plays kiwi tunes and now you can listen to them while you are using sharemyNZ. Just click on the KiwiFM icon at the top of your personal homepage, or at the top of any other member's homepage. Select your connection speed and you'll be chilling out to the best beats from Aotearoa in seconds.
Scoopit is New Zealand's social news bookmarking website. User’s submit links to blogs and stories that they find interesting and then other Scoopit members vote on them. We’ve added links on all sharemyNZ blog posts so you can quickly and easily share the stuff you find interesting on sharemyNZ with other kiwis on Scoopit.
There has been a great response to our Invite Your Friends and Win competition since we launched it - thank you. Keep checking back here for the up to date list of winners.

On top of this, for every friend you get to sign up on sharemyNZ you will be entered into a random draw to win heaps of free stuff like digital cameras, cellphones, iPods and PSPs from our giveaway stash! The more people you invite, the greater your chances are of winning. So invite your mates today.
This new feature lets you say a bit about yourself or edit your profile photo without having to add a section or start a blog. It's a bit of fun and there are some funny ones about already. Let us know how many Weetbix you can eat or what your favourite pie is. Plus as soon as you add some stuff you become visible on the site. This means you can add things to your favourites and it allows users to add you as a friend so you can see their private photos and blogs.
So you've started a blog and realised you've done it incorrectly....it's not a big deal and you can fix it pretty easily. The most common mistake people make is to start their blog with a specific post entry. You should start you blog with a general summary...
RSS feeds, or commonly just called feeds, are awesome tools for saving you time and keeping you up to date with all of your favourite online stuff. Instead of trawling through all of your favourite sites and blogs only to find there is nothing new or interesting, your sharemyNZ profile has a built in feed reader allowing you to see what's new on those sites without having to even go to them! And it's free!
If you simply cut and paste text from Word into your blog or forum it will over write sharemyNZ's formatting and the text will appear bigger and often darker. To prevent this happening is very easy.
How do I add, edit and change my profile photo or section photos?
1 POST PLUGGS
When you first join sharemyNZ you will need to initially add a section to your profile. You then need to upload images to your relevant galleries. Once you have uploaded at least one image you are able to set it as your profile photo and your main section photo.
Our Hide It function allows the sharemyNZ community to collectively decide what is and isn't appropriate content. Refer to our Hide It post for more information.
So you’ve started your blog – now you can begin adding posts (entries) to it. Click on the Add a New Entry button in the blog you want to add the post to which will open the following window. Add in a title for the post, enter tags and then the post entry. You can write as much or as a little as you like in here, plus add in images and link to other web pages – both within sharemyNZ and to external websites.
It's really easy to start a blog so give it a go. Simply login and click on the Start a New Blog button which can be found at the top of any page of your profile.
To add a website to your favourite websites simply log in, go to your favourite websites section and click on the Add a Website button. The following screen will appear. Enter in the website's url, a title and a description, then press save and close.
If you find something on the site that you think is inappropriate you can use the Hide It button to remove a plugg from that piece of content and reduce the chances of other people seeing it.
You can embed any YouTube video into your profile to create video galleries. Why can’t you upload videos directly onto sharemyNZ you ask? Well eventually we’d like to offer you this function but it is an horrendously expensive exercise and being just a wee start up it’s a bit beyond us at the moment – but in the meantime virtually the whole world uses YouTube so we thought let’s make use of existing technology in the meantime!
To help everyone find the stuff they're looking for, everything has been broadly categorised into seven sections within your profile and forums. They’re really broad and we’re confident that they cover pretty much anything you would ever want to share or write about. You can add as many or as few sections as you like to your profile and are free to write about, upload and share whatever you want within them.
This post is for people that own a business and want to list and advertise it on sharemyNZ. It is really easy to add your business to sharemyNZ. First of all you will need to either sign in or if you aren't a member yet you'll need to quickly sign up and register.
If you have just signed in on the homepage – the log on area will change to look something like this. Simply click on the Go to My NZ button and that will take you straight to your profile.
I've just signed up & verified my details....now what?
1 POST PLUGGS
Good work - you've done the boring, but necessary bit, now you can start having a bit of fun and enjoying sharemyNZ! You can begin to create your profile - this is the page you are automatically directed to when you verify your details after signing up. It is pictured below. If you have accepted an invite from a friend already on sharemyNZ then you will be automatically directed to their profile.
Your favourites section makes your profile a one stop shop for all your daily information needs. Your RSS feed reader keeps you up to date with your favourite online publishers without having to check out every individual site, you can book mark your favourite websites and pages, keep all of your favourite sharemyNZ people in one place and have the contact details of your preferred businesses immediately at hand.
Yes, it is completely free to register and to use sharemyNZ. If you own a business and want to fully promote it on sharemyNZ then there is a small annual fee of $14.95 p.a. For this you can list all of your contact details, can upload photos and logos and describe what your business does.
The word blog is a shortened form of the original term Weblog. It is essentially an online diary, journal or place where you can write stuff to share with other online users. A blog has an overall title (like a book cover), then you add new posts (like chapters in a book) to your blog whenever you want. You can add images to a post as well as link to any available web address.
Real Simple Syndication (RSS) is a way for online publishers to send stories, pictures and multimedia directly to your computer for free. Instead of going to 10-15 of your favourite websites each day to see if there is anything new on there, you can subscribe to an RSS feed from those same websites and when something is updated, it is sent to your computer allowing you view it at your leisure.
Can the whole world see your profile, photos and blogs? Well that depends on the privacy level you have set for each of your sections within your profile.
Give us your feedback - what is and isn't working?

We’ve made sharemyNZ for your enjoyment New Zealand and so we’d love to hear what you think of it. We reckon it’s pretty cool but know there will be bugs, functionality we have overlooked and improvements to be made – but heck it’s a pretty good start!
As a sharemyNZ member you have full editorial control of the website. You contribute your own content, help to edit and moderate the rest of the content on the site through plugging. The more pluggs a piece of content gets, the more likely other people will see it.
sharemyNZ is where you share stuff - with your friends, your family, with New Zealand or the whole world if you like! Sick of using the massive US based social networking sites and being bombarded with irrelevant results and date invitations, sharemyNZ was born.
How do I add a new RSS feed to my favourite feeds?
2 POST PLUGGS
Adding a RSS feed to your favourite feeds is really easy - often the hardest part is trying to find the RSS feed url from the source site. You are able to add external and internal sharemyNZ feeds to your favourites.
There are many places where you can upload photos on sharemyNZ. It's pretty simple to do by following the instructions on screen. You are able to load any image smaller than 3MB provided it is smaller than 6000x4000 pixels. Pretty much any image of 3MB or less will be smaller than this.
